FAQ

What is a Reef Rider?

A Reef Rider is a 10 foot long rib (rigid inflatable boat). It seats 2 people, one in front of the other. It has a steering wheel and a throttle level and is just like driving a kart. It is very stable in the water and almost impossible to tip over. Remember, our expert guide will give you full instructions on how to safely operate the Reef Rider before you set off. They are great fun and one of the best things to do in Antigua.

How fast do they go?
Reef Riders are powered by a single 25hp outboard motor and on calm waters can reach speeds of up to 30 miles per hour!

Who can ride a Reef Rider?
The minimum age to be a passenger is 5 years old and the minimum age to drive a boat is 18 years old.

Due to the physical nature of the tour we do not recommend this tour for pregnant women or those with back problems. You don’t need to be in great shape and we will make every effort to assist you in getting in and out of the Reef Riders, Non swimmers are welcome to ride and do not have to participate in the snorkelling if they prefer to stay on the boat whilst it is moored at the reef.

Are their any weight restrictions?
Each Reef Rider can carry a maximum of 400lbs. If the total combined weight of the two guests exceed this limit then this is not a problem, simply reserve two Reef Riders instead. Please check availability whilst booking.

Where are you based?
We are located in Jolly Harbour Marina, just a short 20 minute taxi ride from St Johns Port. We are now launching from the dock next to Al Porto Restaurant, near the entrance to the golf course on the North Finger of Jolly Harbour Marina.

Can you provide transportation?
Unfortunately due to local government restrictions we are unable to provide a dedicated shuttle service. There are many excellent taxi drivers waiting to take good care of you. The government published tariff for a taxi from St Johns to Jolly Harbour is $24 US for up to 4 people each way. Alternatively, try our excellent (and VERY cheap) local buses. Take bus route #20 or #22 from St Johns to Jolly Harbour for just $1.50 US each way!

If you prefer a more personal experience then why not consider our All Day Wet n Dry Tour which includes Port or Hotel pick up.

What should I bring with me?
You will need a bathing suit, towel, sunscreen and sunglasses. Most people wear their bathing suit under their clothes when they arrive to save time, although there are changing facilities in the marina.

There is a splash-proof storage section in the front of the Reef Riders to keep your personal effects out of the water.
What happens if the weather is bad?
It is very rare that we need to reschedule a tour due to bad weather.

The boats can handle rain and choppy seas, but your safety is of paramount importance to us. If we feel it is unsafe to go out to the reef then we can offer an alternative route, reschedule or give a full refund. Any Caribbean rain will not affect your enjoyment of the tour, rain or not – YOU WILL GET WET!

What day do the tours run, what time do the tours start and how long do they take?
We currently operate 3 tours a day every day, starting at 9:00, 11:30 and 2:30pm. Times may vary a little if we have a group traveling across the island, but this will be confirmed at time of booking. Each tour takes around 2 1/2 hours including safety briefing. If you are coming by cruise ship then please only select the 2.30pm tour if your cruise departs at 6.00pm or later!

Sounds great! How can I make a reservation and payment?
Use the bookings page on this site or call or contact us directly on [email protected] and we will get back to you.

What is your cancellation policy?
We must be notified of cancellations at least 24 hrs in advance of your tour or we will have to charge the full price of the tour on your card.
